Synopsis

Debussy's only complete opera, Pelleas is the tale of a mysterious young woman found wandering in the forest and the two brothers who loved her. Pelleas, Golaud's half brother and his wife, Melisande fall in love. Pelleas determines to leave in order to avoid temptation. They meet one last time to say goodbye and are caught by Golaud, who in a fit of jealousy, kills Pelleas. Melisande dies shortly thereafter for no apparent reason, having just given birth to a daughter. Debussy's lush score evokes a gorgeous dreamlike, "otherworldly" mood. Be transported! Performed with string quintet, flute and piano
